Mangfei Tea in Yongde

Mangfei (忙肺) is a village in Mengban Township, Yongde County, Lincang. It is one of the better-known Yongde raw-pu-erh names, with commercial lots often described as floral, full and bitter before sweetness returns.

What to look for in a sample

Those descriptions come from individual products, not a controlled village survey. Follow the middle infusions: does the tea keep its body, and does the drying sensation clear? Compare it with another Yongde tea from a similar harvest before attributing everything to Mangfei.

Smoke or sourness deserves a separate note. It may tell you more about processing and storage than about the village.

A village with several sourcing possibilities

Official records place Mangfei Village under Mengban. A tea-community account also identifies a narrower Mangfei Natural Village, but its current rank still needs independent confirmation. A label may use the administrative village, that smaller locality or a wider commercial meaning.

Local reporting describes processing households and protected old gardens. It also reports efforts to stop outside leaf being sold under the Mangfei name. That concern is a reason to ask how a lot was kept separate, not evidence against every cake.

Before buying

Ask which part of Mangfei supplied the leaf and whether it was bought as fresh leaf or maocha. Then establish the harvest, processor and any blending before pressing.

An old-garden entry records a resource; it doesn’t verify the age of all tea sold nearby. The sources don’t provide a complete tree-age audit or a public record following every batch. A modest village claim with consistent answers is easier to assess than an undocumented single-tree claim.
