Manlin (曼林) is a current village committee in Xiangming Yi Ethnic Township, Mengla County. Tea writing often places it within the historical Manzhuan mountain, but it is separate from today’s Manzhuang Village Committee.
A comparison worth trying
MattCha reviewed two 2016 Zheng Si Long teas from the same producer, year and listed price: one labelled Manzhuan, the other Manlin. The broad Manzhuan began with wood, cherry, coconut and pastry sweetness, then faded sooner. The Manlin built more gradually and lasted longer.
That is one taster’s comparison of commercially sourced teas. It doesn’t prove a village-wide difference, but it gives you a useful question: what remains in the later infusions after the first sweetness has passed?
Current village and historical mountain
A research record of a 2019 tea competition lists Manlin among Manzhuan entrants. It supports the connection between the present village and older tea name without making their boundaries identical.
A Manlin label can still mean a committee-area blend, a smaller village group or one household’s lot. Each is a different degree of precision. Ask which the maker intended.
Choosing a sample
Start with Manlin and a broad Manzhuan from similar harvests and storage, preferably from the same producer. Brew in the same vessel with matching water and timing. Compare the pace of the session as well as its opening aroma.
For a purchase, ask who supplied and processed the leaf and whether the lot stayed separate through pressing. Gradual sweetness or long stamina may be reasons to enjoy a cake, but neither verifies its village or tree age.
